All of my storytelling programs have an interactive component. Some stories encourage audience participation in songs or chants. Often I invite listeners on stage to help tell stories. Sometimes I work with groups of children as young as kindergarteners up through middle schoolers for an hour before my program and then integrate them into the performance. I believe that the power of telling stories is a joy that can be shared by everyone. With support, encouragement, and easily learned techniques, students begin to find their own storytelling voices. They experience the fun and satisfaction of knowing a story, or part of a story, and giving it to others. I choose stories gathered when I lived in Africa, in Central America, and in Europe. I choose stories told to me by friends or discovered in books. My programs can be tailor-made to fit curriculum needs or special holidays.
